FAQs

What is Palliative Care?

Palliative care is a specialty service that relieves distressing symptoms, addresses emotional and psychological needs, and collaborates with other healthcare providers to seamlessly coordinate medical treatments, therapies, and support services. This results in more comprehensive and holistic care for patients and families.

How is palliative care different from hospice care?

Palliative care is not Hospice care, but hospice care is always palliative. Both care teams aim to improve your quality of life.

Palliative care providers can care for people at any point in their healthcare journey. While The Palliative Coach focuses on people with chronic illnesses, palliative care can also address the symptoms of someone battling a curable illness.

With palliative care, you do not have to stop aggressive treatments if you have a chronic illness when palliative care is part of the team.

Hospice is a Medicare benefit, and you must qualify for those services. It is a comprehensive approach to care during end-of-life. A provider has to certify that you likely have six months or less to live.

The Palliative Coach will work alongside your home care team and primary care provider. We are a part of your care team and experts in symptom management.

Does my insurance cover palliative care?

Yes! I am happy to say most insurance will cover the cost of palliative care. We bill Medicare Part B. We can follow along with your primary care team and home care team.

The out-of-pocket cost is comparable to an office visit at your doctor’s office. We have begun the credentialing process with all major payers. We will update the list below of insurances we can bill. If you do not see your insurance listed, please get in touch with us.

Can I continue my treatments, medications, and services like physical therapy?

Yes, absolutely. We become a part of your care team. You can continue with your other providers, home services, and all treatments. Our goal is to be supportive and guide you and your family during your healthcare journey.

We believe empowerment begins with education..

The first Saturday of each month will feature information on symptoms we often evaluate. Our presentations are meant to be lighthearted and useful. We hope the information provides value and leads to a question at your next visit. Click below for the free content.
